The Charitable Organization 'Charitable Foundation Serce Druha' began its journey in 2012 in the city of Uman, Cherkasy region. At that time, each of the future team members was helping animals independently: rescuing abandoned dogs and cats, paying for medical treatments, looking for temporary foster homes, and finding new families. Over time, it became clear that by joining forces, we could help a much larger number of animals. That is why in 2014, the organization was officially registered, which allowed us to address the issues of stray animals more effectively and involve partners in our joint work.
Over the years of activity, the foundation has become one of the key animal welfare centers in the region. Despite Uman being a small city in the central part of Ukraine, hundreds and thousands of animals have passed through our organization. We rescue, treat, sterilize, vaccinate, and rehome stray dogs and cats, as well as support independent caretakers and caring people who look after animals on their own. While the volunteer team changes over the years — with some joining and others choosing a different path — the most important thing remains unchanged: a team of like-minded people working every day to save animals' lives.
During the full-scale war, the foundation's activities expanded significantly. Animals from combat zones, occupied territories, and regions affected by humanitarian disasters passed through our organization. We helped animals from the Kherson region, participated in the rescue and transportation of animals after the destruction of the Kakhovka HPP dam, supported internally displaced persons (IDPs) and their pets, and delivered food and essential supplies to frontline areas. Many animals found new homes thanks to our volunteers or were transported to other cities and countries for further adoption.
Today, 'Serce Druha' is about more than just helping animals. We actively cooperate with schools, children's facilities, and social institutions in the Cherkasy region, raising awareness about the humane treatment of animals, supporting boarding schools, and engaging in other social projects. We are convinced that a responsible society begins with caring. That is why every day we strive to be useful to both animals and people, contributing to the development of a humane, responsible, and strong society.
